About This Spot
Stepping into Imperial Express feels like slipping into a familiar, well-loved corner of Darlington where time moves at a gentle, welcoming pace. Nestled just off the town centre on Northumberland Street, this spot blends the easy comfort of a neighborhood café with the warm hum of a breakfast restaurant that invites you to linger. Whether you choose to settle inside amid cozy furnishings or outside watching the day unfold, there’s an unpretentious friendliness in the air, one that makes you feel instantly at home.
The rhythm here is steady but relaxed—staff move with attentive ease, striking that perfect balance between efficiency and warmth. It’s the kind of place where orders are taken promptly but never rushed, and conversations float freely over the clink of coffee cups and the occasional burst of laughter. The atmosphere encourages connection, whether you’re meeting long-time friends or simply enjoying a quiet moment of pause in your day.
Food at Imperial Express mirrors this thoughtful approach. It’s not about flashy plates, but rather the satisfying, honest pleasures of classic morning and midday fare. Imagine the cozy richness of perfectly poached eggs paired with carefully brewed coffee, or the quiet indulgence of a sweet treat that gently surprises with its depth—each dish inviting you to savor not just the flavors but the comforting ritual of a shared meal. There’s always room for something a little different too, whether that’s a vegetarian twist or a daily soup that speaks to the season.
Beyond the menu, Imperial Express thrives on the genuine care woven into every detail. It’s evident in how the staff greet you, the thoughtful way dishes arrive, and the calm assurance that comes from shared standards of safety and attention—small gestures that make a big difference. This is a place that gently encourages you to slow down, enjoy each bite and sip, and appreciate the understated joy of simple, well-made food in good company.

Located close to the town centre. Has both indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly service throughout. Only had a coffee and a cheese scone so I cannot comment on their food menu. A great place to meet up with friends and family.

Wonderful meal here, Sea bass fillets perfection, desserts to die for. Great menu options & a large selection of wines all at very reasonable prices. Will be returning again this week.

Stop by for a cheeky full English and a coffee. What a lovely place, the staff were amazing tended to our every need with a smile. They are all fully covid safe. The food was lovely. Perfectly poached eggs (something I'm a stickler for) and the coffee was yummy. Highly recommended.
